Sam Bowman

Sam founded HeartWorks in 2016 and continues to oversee its day-to-day operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She is passionate about helping individuals find their “new normal” after a cardiac diagnosis and or event, empowering them through the use of exercise and holistic support.
As a Senior Cardiac Physiologist with over 15 years of industry experience in diagnostic cardiac testing, Sam’s expertise has shaped her understanding of the critical need for supporting individuals post-diagnosis. Her extensive background, gained through formal study and hands-on work in both sports and medical environments, drives HeartWorks’ approach to rehabilitation, fostering a space where clients are encouraged to regain confidence and improve their quality of life.
Her expertise in both clinical and practical applications adds great value to the HeartWorks rehabilitation experience, fostering a comprehensive, supportive, and empowering environment where clients are guided to regain their strength and confidence.
Josh Bohmer

Josh is the Lead Exercise Physiologist at HeartWorks, bringing a wealth of knowledge from his Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology. He is deeply passionate about the uniqueness of exercise physiology, appreciating how every case and every person presents a new opportunity to make a difference.
In his role, Josh is most passionate about improving people’s health and well-being in a clinical setting, using exercise as a powerful tool for rehabilitation and long-term health.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys playing cricket, working out at the gym, watching sports, and socialising with friends. His commitment to both his professional and personal fitness goals mirrors his dedication to helping clients regain their strength and confidence.
Sapna Khusal

Sapna is a highly qualified Exercise Physiologist at HeartWorks, holding a Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology and having completed the first year of post-graduate studies in Medical Technology. Her personal journey, with a close family member experiencing heart issues, has fueled her passion for cardiac rehabilitation, driving her commitment to helping others improve their health and well-being.
Sapna applies her clinical expertise to each client, focusing on personalised care and empowering individuals to take control of their recovery. She finds fulfilment in using her knowledge to positively impact lives.
Outside of work, Sapna enjoys spending time in nature and loves being outdoors with her two dogs. She also finds peace and joy in drawing, which allows her to unwind and recharge.
Alex Sasse

Dr. Alex Sasse acts as the Director of Cardiac Imaging and Clinical Director at Wellington Hospital, where he brings extensive expertise to his leadership roles. In addition, his involvement with the Wakefield Heart Centre allows him to provide advanced specialist testing and comprehensive cardiac assessments, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care.
As one of HeartWorks’ on-call cardiologists and a key presenter at the clinic’s monthly educational seminars, Alex shares his knowledge and insights with both staff and patients. His clinical expertise is complemented by his personal understanding of the patient experience.
Alex is driven by a belief that recovery goes beyond advanced medical procedures. “From my own family’s experience, I’ve learned that cardiac care isn’t just about high-tech medicine. It’s about getting back to life—being active, regaining confidence, and truly living.”
